There is an age old saying that says "a house is only as good as its foundation". The same is true when landscaping. Good preparation is essential and is made a priority here at Jeffreys Creek. Quality soil is the single most important determining factor in the successful establishment of plant material and lawns. It is home to the most critical part of the plant, the roots, and provides almost all the nutrients a plant needs to grow. Quite often the soil around the foundation of a home is of poor quality due to construction. In other areas of the yard soil may be poor due to natural conditions. Prior to installing plant material we will recommend either amending the existing soil or removing it altogether and adding quality soil to a depth of eighteen (18) inches. We supply our clients with only the best quality topsoil, which contains the proper texture, structure, fertility, and chemical properties to support healthy lawns and gardens.
Planting of trees and shrubs have both a functional and aesthetic role in the landscape. Well designed and well placed trees can offer cooling in the summer months while others can create a windbreak to buffer the cold winds of winter. The use of specimen trees and shrubs can enhance the architecture of the home and act as focal points, lending an immediate mature look to the property. Plantings can provide seasonal color, privacy screens, and enhancement of outdoor living spaces such as patios, pools and terraces. Using plants with multi-season appeal helps a landscape remain attractive throughout the winter months, while massing of plants create rivers of continuity that tie a landscape together. Certain colors of plants when used properly can give the illusion of making an area look more spacious or more intimate and often can act as an exclamation point calling attention to a particular area.
